The Health Rights Advocacy Forum (HERAF) is an non-governmental organization that brings together health professionals, NGOs, FBOs, and PLWHA organizations to advocate for health as a fundamental human right in Kenya. It was established in 2006 as a project of Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) with support from Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) USA, and registered as a non-governmental organization in Kenya by the NGO Coordination Board in 2007.
HERAF exists to:
- Provide knowledge and information on health as a fundamental human right in Kenya
- Conduct evidence-based advocacy for reforms in health policies
- Promote health sector management and governance
- Advance an efficient health care financing system
Strategic Objectives
- Creating awareness, informing and educating health professionals, civil society and communities on health as a fundamental human right
- Influencing Kenya's health policies to guarantee the promotion, respect and protection of the right to health
- Providing leadership among health professionals, civil society and the local masses in identifying and addressing emerging health rights issues in Kenya
- Advocating for an efficient health financing system that ensures equity, accountability and the sustainability of Kenya's health care system.
