Strengthening Community Initiatives to Eliminate New HIV Infections among Children and Keeping their Mothers Alive in Mazeras and Kafuduni Community Health Units of Kinango Sub County

Health Rights Advocacy Forum (HERAF) with support from the Positive Action Children Fund (PACF) is implementing a two year project titled, “Strengthening Community Initiatives to Eliminate New HIV Infections among Children and Keeping their Mothers Alive in Mazeras and Kafuduni Community Health Units of Kinango Sub County, Kwale County in the Coast Region of Kenya.” The project aims at strengthening community initiatives to eliminate new HIV infections among children and keeping mothers alive in Mazeras and Kafunduni community health units. The objectives of the Project are as follows:

1. Improving motivation and ability for HIV negative women to practice safer sex and to access services

2. Improving women’s living with HIV knowledge and access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health rights for prevention of unintended pregnancies

3. Strengthening the capacity of community health workers and organizations to improve retention of women, children and partners in local HIV, PMTCT, ANC and pediatric HIVservices.

The outcomes of the project are expected to be improved motivation and ability for HIV negative women to practice safer sex and access services; improved knowledge and access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health rights for prevention of unintended pregnancies among women living with HIV and increased retention of women, children and partners in local HIV, PMTCT, ANC and paediatric services.
